Principal’s Report
Mr Jardine
Dear Parents and Friends of our School
Great opportunities for our students
I would like to acknowledge some of the great opportunities that our students have involved themselves in over the past two weeks.
- Our Readers’ Cup team competed in the State Finals and finished in the top 10.
- The Senior Production had lots of positive reviews and it was pleasing to see the diverse range of performances.
- The Year 11 and 12 Business students did a fantastic job running our school’s first colour explosion to support RU OK Day.
- Our Open boys Rugby League 9s competed in the Lockyer District 9s carnival.
- Our Year 7 and 8 participating in a Sporting Cluster Day held in Laidley.
Thank You
As this is the last newsletter for Term 3, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our students and staff and commend them on the commitment, dedication and hard work they have displayed throughout this term.
In particular, last week we celebrated and recognised the following support staff: Teacher Aides, Administration Officers, Schools Officers, Agricultural Assistant, IT Technician and Business Manager. Without these important and valued staff members in our school, it would be very difficult for us to support our students to learn and achieve.
Next term
Please note that the first day of Term 4 is Tuesday 8 October (as Monday 7 October is a Public Holiday). The final Student Free Day for the year is on Monday 21 October. Until then ….
Yours in learning
Mr Ross Jardine

From The Deputy’s Desk
Ms Woods
As the end of Term 3 is upon us – I look forward to the culmination of the year and the celebrations and acknowledgements that occur in Term 4.
Our school’s Awards Night will be held at the Esk Civic Centre on Tuesday 29 October.
The final week of Term 4 for Year 10 and 11 students (25 -29 November) is an Exam Block to complete assessment. All Year 10 and 11 students need to meet their assessment commitments during this time and remain in attendance until Friday 29 November.
Year 7, 8 and 9 students will participate in an Alternate Program from Friday 6 December to Friday 13 December.
Final QCS
The 2019 QCS test was sat on Tuesday 3 and Wednesday 4 September. The writing task stimulus topic was “What’s next?” which was relevant for students who sat the final QCS test as we move to the new QCE/ATAR system where external exams will assess students at end of Year 12. Our school takes this opportunity thank the long standing Community Representatives Christine Aitken and Bill Pearson who have overseen the QCS test in our school for many years.
Term 3 Interim Reports
On Thursday 19 September, Term 3 Interim Reports were issued to all students. The Term 3 Report is a ‘year-to-date’ report and reflects a student’s progress over the year. Parents can assist their children by discussing this report with their child and working with them to set goals for Term 4. If you would like to meet with any of our teachers, please contact the Office on 5423 4444.
Boys Formal Uniform REMINDER
Formal Uniform must be worn on Mondays and nominated formal occasions but may also be worn on any other day of the week.
- TSHS green button up shirt, worn tucked in.
- TSHS formal shorts or plain black dress pants.
- Plain black belt with a small plain buckle.
- TSHS bottle green striped tie (Terms 2, 3 and nominated formal occasions).
Students will be reminded regularly about how the formal uniform is to be worn. If they continue to fail to abide by the school dress code they will have consequences applied. Uniform detentions are a common consequence and parents will be notified by text message if detentions are missed. Please help us support the appropriate dress standard by reminding your student of how the uniform is to be worn.
All students: As per our school’s dress code – shoes are to be all black – uppers, laces and soles. Shoes that meet the policy are available at all price points and it is inexpensive to buy shoes that meet the criteria rather than expensive name brand shoes that don’t.
Term 4 Assessment Calendars
Year Level Assessment Calendars for Term 4 will be issued with the first newsletter Week 2 Term 4. I would suggest you put a copy on the fridge, or another prominent location and use it to support your student to achieve their best. The Assessment Calendar will also show the draft date for extended assessment like a research assignment. The draft dates for exams are when a practice exam has been scheduled. Electronic copies are available on our website.
Attendance Data – Term 3
I wish students a safe and relaxing break until Tuesday 8 October.

Respect |
Act in a way that reflects positively on the school while in uniform |
Wearing the school uniform identifies you as part of our school. Our community has expectations as to how our students act: Respectfully, Responsibly and Committed to their Achievement. Acting in this way wherever you are while in uniform shows respect for yourself and the school. |

2020 Student Resource Scheme
Mrs Tinney
The Queensland Government supports children’s education by providing funding for instruction (teachers), facilities (school grounds and buildings, internet), and administration (staff to run the school). Funding for schools does not extend to individual student resources such as textbooks, equipment for personal use, and many items used by the student in the classroom.
The SRS helps parents to source these resources. The school can purchase resources at lower rates due to its bulk buying power. Resources such as textbooks or musical instruments that will be used over a period of time are hired to students to further reduce costs for families. Participating in the SRS also offers a convenient way for parents to source the items that their child needs for school, and ensures that all students have access to the same standard of resources.
The School has developed a Curriculum Student Resource Scheme for all students at Toogoolawah State High School. For more information regarding the SRS please see the link below.
https://www.toogoolawahshs.eq.edu.au/
There are three (3) categories of SRS:-
- CURRICULUM SRS, eg. Textbooks, student diaries
- LAPTOP PROGRAM / BYOD
- INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC
We have included with your students’ Term 3 Report Cards, the 2020 Student Resource Scheme, Participation Agreement Forms.
Please complete and sign the Participation Agreement forms and return to the Office by 01 November 2019.
If you require any further information, please contact the school on 5423 4444.

Year 9/10 Home Economics
Mr Mathew Phillips
This Term saw our Home Economics class planning a two-course meal based on the Australian Dietary Guidelines. Students had to then cook one of the courses before having to evaluate their chosen menu. Some of the meals produced can be seen below.

CCE – Expanding Our World
Ms Arnold
Throughout Term 3 our “Expanding Our World” Unit has seen the CCE class discover countries around the world and their diverse cultures. We identified countries whose National Days were celebrated during this term including France, Belgium, Switzerland, Singapore, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Mexico and China and investigated facts about their history, geography and population. We also chose delicious dishes from those countries that we prepared, cooked and demolished (no leftovers) including quiche lorraine, crepes with lemon sauce, belgian waffles and cherry sauce, brussel sprouts in cheese sauce, cheese fondue, singapore noodles, samosas, curry puffs, chai tea, nasi goreng, satays, laksa, Malaysian curry pasties, tortillas, tacos and yum cha.
We enjoyed hosting Mr Adwardi and the Indonesian class who cooked with us in Week 6 to celebrate their National Day on 17 August. Many thanks also to special guest Mrs G Barrie whose expertise and guidance to help us make the samosas and chai tea for the Indian National Day in Week 5.
This unit has enabled us to experience and appreciate many other cultures.

R U Ok Day
On Friday 13 September, the Year 11 & 12 Cert Business class hosted their R U Ok Day event. R U Ok Day aims to promote mental health by starting a conversation and asking your family and friends ‘are you ok?’
The day started with ‘dress for a cause’ with students dressing in what makes them comfortable. Then students got to enjoy a meal deal BBQ and the colour explosion at first break out on the oval!
Ashleigh, Mikalah, Emmitt, Jack and Maeson worked hard to set up and obstacle course on the oval for the colour explosion. There was lots of fun with people running through the sprinklers first and then going through the obstacle course to be covered in colour.
Danielle and Tiarna spent the morning preparing the food for the sausage sizzle which was cooked by Mr Beacham.
Kiyah, Neryn and Breanna used their decorating skills to create the giant balloon arch which was the beginning of the colour explosion.
All profits raised will be donated to the R U Ok Day Foundation.
The Business class would like to thank Mr Dean and Mr Tinney for helping set up the course on the oval, Mr Beacham for cooking the BBQ, Miss Vicki for her photography skills and Mrs Kruger and Mrs Mengel for helping with the colour explosion.
